Classes and Local Courses
SUS encourages its members to take the basic and advanced level courses offered by the Coast
Guard Auxiliary and the US Power Squadron. Each member is encouraged to take the basic course
in addition to acquiring the required State of Connecticut Safe Boating Certificate.
As always, the
SUS Board of Directors and/or the Director of Education has the final say as to
whether an individual has met the club's educational requirements.

For over 60 years,
tens-of-thousands of men and women of the Coast Guard Auxiliary have
spent millions of volunteer hours helping the Coast Guard carry out its
missions. The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary is composed of
uniformed, non-military volunteers who assist the Coast Guard in all of
its varied missions, except for military and direct law enforcement.
These men and women can be found on the nation's waterways, in the air,
in classrooms and on the dock, performing Maritime Domain Awareness
patrols, safety patrols, vessel safety checks and public education.
